Secretary General : Yeoeun Shin
Greetings esteemed delegates,
Welcome to the 11th year of HAFS’ Middle School International Model United Nations. It is my honor to be hosting this meaningful conference, and to serve all of you this year. MIMUN for the past years have provided students with a chance to engage in not only fruitful discussions regarding pressing international issues, but also in meaningful interactions between other knowledgeable peers from different backgrounds. This year, we will be including committees such as the General Assembly (DISEC), the Economic and Social Council, the Human Rights Council, the Security Council, as well as Press, to allow for such discussions to take place once more. We will be entertaining crucial topics of discussion through agendas pertaining to foreign military intervention, cybersecurity, women’s labor, modern forms of slavery, and so much more. We have come to an age where discussion is hard to achieve without polarization and heated altercations. The politicians of our world struggle to come to consensus on the most basic of issues, even those regarding the fundamental protection of human rights. On the civilian level, controversial issues are met with social media outrage that only further divide and fuel anger. This is an age where moderated and rational discussion is more important than ever. It is therefore our responsibility as the youth to be engaged in such issues, to later take on the role of leading much needed debates. MIMUN wishes to do our part in advancing this interest in world issues, and providing students with a chance to think about and speak upon them. This year we greet delegates once again with our selective and highly trained secretariat and chairs to guide the conference to be an encouraging and engaging experience. Utilizing our help, we hope that delegates will take part in effective debates and come to viable solutions to the problems at hand through resolutions. Throughout these debates we also hope that delegates make their best effort in reaching their full potential and advance their skills in public speaking, negotiation skills, problem solving etc. We hope you have fun, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us via email.
Sincerely, Yeo Eun Shin Secretary General of MIMUN XI

Deputy Secretary General : Jiwon Lee
Welcome delegates,
My name is Jiwon Lee, a senior of the international course at the Hankuk Academy of Foreign Studies. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the eleventh annual MIMUN. Having served as head chair of the General Assembly in the previous year, it is an honor for me to spend my last year of high school acting as deputy secretary general for this meaningful conference. Considering the instability of world politics due to populism, isolationism, and extreme nationalism, it is imperative for us—the leaders of tomorrow—to take interest in exterminating these polarizing issues and help foster a brighter world. One can learn a great deal from the past. Some even say that history continues to repeat itself in cycles. By delving upon the resolutions already made, it will be possible for participating delegates to make enhanced solutions for tomorrow. It is my sincere hope that delegates participating in the conference will gain the ability to think critically about previous solutions and cooperate together to develop an optimistic future. As the deputy secretary general, I will never hesitate to assist any delegate when they require help, so please feel free to contact me whenever needed.
Sincerely, Jiwon Lee
